Our vision and values
We envision a future in which every farm family has the knowledge and means to achieve big harvests, support healthy families, and cultivate rich soil.
Our vision
Extreme poverty is concentrated in one profession: farming. Most people living on $1 a day are farmers.
If all of the 50 million farm families in Sub-Saharan Africa could grow more on their current plots of land, they would be a powerful force against poverty and food insecurity in their communities.
Farming is truly the engine of Africa's development. When farmers have the opportunity to make their farming more productive, they build pathways to prosperity for millions of families.
Big Harvests
On average, the farmers we directly serve double the size of their harvests—from the same plot of land—and produce a surplus for the first time. We envision a new reality in which all farmers:
- Harvest more from their staple food crops.
- Are protected against crop failures through crop insurance.
- Have access to higher-paying markets for their crops.
- Diversify the crops on their farm and build long-term assets.
Healthy Families
Farmers we serve directly are more likely to have a steady supply of food all year. We imagine a future in which all farmers and their families:
- Never have to skip a meal from lack of food.
- Eat more diverse and nutritious foods.
- Have all their basic needs met.
Rich Soils
The farmers we serve are helping to improve soil health. We picture a world in which all farmers have the option to:
- Plant trees to control erosion and capture carbon dioxide.
- Control soil pH and boost plant nutrients.
- Diversify their crops to increase soil fertility.
- Compost to minimize erosion.
Our values
Farmers are the engine of prosperity. We believe they hold the key to ending hunger and poverty in our lifetime.
The core values that drive our staff and strategy are:
Humble Service. We meet farmers in their fields, and we get our shoes muddy. Farmers are our customers, and we serve them with humility.
Hard Work. We work hard every day. We execute with world-class professionalism and business excellence. Farmers deserve nothing less.
Continual Growth. We improve every season. We work with determination to meet our goals and then stretch ourselves by raising the bar even higher.
Family of Leaders. We bring together the best leaders and build long-term careers. We care for team members like family.
Dreaming Big. We envision serving millions of farm families. We build for scale with every idea and solution.
Integrity. We do what we say, and our words match our values.

Why tree planting on farms is a win for farmers and nature
Discover how agroforestry - the practice of planting trees among crops - offers smallholder farmers like Baraka, Dunstan and Claudine a variety of benefits.
Why investing in women farmers catalyzes community development
Women smallholder farmers like Hilder Ongeri typically invest more of what they earn back into their families and communities than their male counterparts. This has knock-on effects for the generations that follow.
Claudine Ayinkamiye: Farmer, tree entrepreneur, climate adapter
In just the first season farming with One Acre Fund, Claudine Ayinkamiye, a 30-year-old farmer from Rwanda, managed to produce 900 kilos of potatoes and maize. Thanks to this surplus, she was able to invest in different crops and trees, making her better equipped to withstand erratic weather due to climate change.
A field officer’s mission: Planting the seeds of climate resilience within her community
Fifty-two-year-old One Acre Fund field officer Alphonsine Nyiransabimana dreams of a thriving agricultural industry in Rwanda, where farmers can earn a decent living. She is working to fulfill this mission by helping farmers in her local community access credit and quality seeds so that they can increase their harvests and adapt to extreme weather caused by the climate crisis.
