Why work here

Build cutting-edge skills in a mission-driven organization.

We’re one of the largest agricultural organizations in Africa. We operate in nine countries - Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Zambia.

Our business is improving the lives of our customers. Guided by our mission, we use the discipline of a business to deliver cost-effective services to millions of people. We believe that heart plus rigor can change the world.

Make Your Work Matter

At One Acre Fund, we measure success in our ability to make smallholder farmers more prosperous. We only serve farmers and we put Farmers First in everything we do. Every spreadsheet, every phone call, and every meeting is focused on producing better harvests and building brighter futures for some of the hardest working people on the planet.

We are passionate about learning from our customers, and we all regularly spend time in the field and get our boots muddy. We proudly build our headquarters in rural areas and humbly listen to farmers’ input. By staying close to the heart of the work, we can respond to customer needs, innovate quickly, and see the impact of our work first-hand.

Head short of David from our Kenya team
"My goal was to find a place where my work had significant impact. I wanted the emails I wrote and the numbers I crunched to help improve the lives of those less well-off. I found that place at One Acre Fund."

Guide a Growing Organization

We dream big: In 2021, we served 1.4 million smallholder farmers, and by 2030 we aim to serve 10 million farmers. Our growth is powered by a strong demand for quality farm supplies in rural areas and our financially sustainable model, a blend of farmer contributions and global investment.

Working at scale offers unique professional opportunities. Many of our staff manage large teams, work across multiple countries and languages, and make decisions that impact entire regions. We are an entrepreneurial team of owners, acting with autonomy and taking responsibility for the end result. We thrive on the challenge of constant growth.

“There is a lot of emphasis on staff development and growth potential, which is what I value most. One Acre Fund is here to stay as long as smallholder farmers still exist and that means there is job security here too.“

Develop New Skills

We have a strong culture of constant learning, and provide as much responsibility as possible early on. We encourage staff at all levels to think critically about their work, offer new ideas, and take on stretch projects that promote on-the-job learning. We also offer a wide range of in-house training courses, from project management and Excel to management and strategy.

You’ll have weekly check-ins with your manager, access to mentorship, a dedicated professional development stipend, and consistent feedback on your performance. We hold bi-annual career reviews, with regular opportunities for a performance-based raise or bonus after the first 12 months.

“At other non-profits, I would probably miss out on private sector skills. One Acre Fund is different—here I’m developing real skills doing work that matters.”

Enjoy Comprehensive Benefits

We care—deeply and genuinely—about the well-being of the people on our team. We hope our talented staff will stay for many years, so we invest in long-term sustainability. We offer a flexible workplace, with casual offices, unfussy dress code, and the option to shift hours or work some time from home. We care about producing results, not time at the office.

We offer a generous benefits package because we believe strongly in supporting the well-being of staff and their families. While details vary by role and location, we generally offer health insurance for staff and their families; at least four weeks of paid vacation; allowances for housing; opportunities for professional development; and paid maternity and paternity leave.

We believe in transparency, and share details about salary and benefits early in the interview process. As a non-profit, we are not always able to match the compensation at the largest private-sector employers. However, we work to stay competitive with similar mission-driven organizations, and to provide benefits that support a good quality of life.
