Burundi

One Acre Fund works in the center and north of Burundi, in the provinces of Muramvya, Gitega, Ngozi, Kayanza, and Mwaro.
Our Burundi program, founded in 2011, operates under the local brand Tubura and served more than 380,000 farmers in 2024. Our headquarters in Muramvya is supported by two regional offices in Gitega and Ngozi, and a small support office in Bujumbura.
The farmers we work with generated an additional $99 in profit in 2024, helping them to break from the cycle of subsistence living, grow more food, and enhance their overall quality of life. We supported them by providing access to loans for seeds, fertilizers, and lifestyle products such as solar lights, and training on efficient farming practices.
Our operations in Burundi grew by 50% in 2024, fueled by increased demand for our services and an ambition to serve more farmers. In 2025, we intend to build on this progress and generate even deeper impact for the country’s agricultural sector. We’d love for you to be a part of this mission - join our mailing list, or check out some of our open roles below!

Burundi Gender Consultant
Gender-disaggregated data from the One Acre Fund Burundi program collected in 2024 found that 76% of clients reported that it is the women in the household who carry out the majority of farm labor yet only 62% of women attend the various trainings. To address this gap, One Acre Fund seeks to increase women’s attendance in climate-smart training sessions by developing and revising training materials to be more gender sensitive and incorporating topics related to gender-based violence, joint decision-making, etc. The goal is to ensure that more women not only attend more trainings as they are more appropriate to their learning style and needs, but that they adopt these practices as well.
