About One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies 1 million smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms vastly more productive. Our 8,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across six core countries in Africa, we make farmers more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. On average, the farmers we serve harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

About the Role

The DRC Expansion Specialist will form part of a small, strategic team whose objective will be to determine the best way for One Acre Fund to expand operations into the DRC. Based on scouting findings, we will start with a small pilot, but aim to scale within the next few years.

You will report to the New Country Expansion Manager, who will lead the DRC scouting mission. Your role will be to collect and analyse data that will help us determine the best business model for a pilot program. More specifically, you will conduct farmer interviews and focus group discussions, run large-scale surveys (including developing the survey tool, and hiring, training and managing a team of enumerators), and run small field trials to stress-test proposed business models.

This role will be a 12-month fixed-term contract, with possibility to extend dependent on the outcome of the scouting mission.

  • Build and deploy appropriate data collection tools in the field (using CommCare software)
  • Engage with the local community authorities and other partners to select and sensitise farming communities
  • Recruit and manage data collection teams on the ground
  • Monitor and manage data quality
  • Roll-out small field trials to test key hypotheses
  • Qualitative and quantitative data analysis

  • Support New Country Expansion Manager in reporting to One Acre Fund leadership
