Strengthening markets

Making markets work for smallholders.

Even when farmers grow surplus food, many still struggle to sell it at a fair price. Gaps in the value chain and limited access to buyers mean missed income opportunities for farm families.

Our market programs support smallholders in earning better prices in local and international markets, helping foster new value chains that can support smallholders, and ensuring farmers can derive the most for their families and their communities from their yields.

"When One Acre Fund started purchasing our harvests, it made a big difference for those of us with avocado trees. I am assured that my produce won’t go to waste. In the past, we didn’t truly value our avocado trees because we had no dependable buyer."

How we strengthen market access

We support certification and quality control so farmers can earn premium prices.

We aggregate and purchase harvests directly from farmers through our local buying centers.

We invest in local processing and packaging, keeping more value within farming communities.

We negotiate with buyers on behalf of farmers to secure the best possible prices.
