Building resilience

Helping farmers build safety nets against shocks.

The world is changing fast, and smallholder farmers are feeling the pressure. From shifting weather patterns to economic shocks and uncertain markets, farmers face challenges every season. To meet this moment, our programs are supporting farmers in building resilience in how they farm now, and pass down a more sustainable farm to the next generation.

"Before joining One Acre Fund, my soil wasn't good. They trained me on how to farm better, such as using compost. Because of that, I can harvest up to 700 kgs of maize, which is more than the 70 kgs I used to get.”

How we support farmer resilience

We train farmers in techniques such as agroforestry, composting, intercropping, erosion control, and soil health management to protect their land and improve long-term productivity.

Through our extensive network of local nurseries, we supply tree seedlings to farmers within walking distance of their farms.

We provide tailored guidance on crop selection, planting times, and agronomic practices that help farmers adapt to changing weather conditions.

We test ethical carbon payment models that reward farmers for restoring ecosystems.

We support farmers in growing a wider variety of weather-resilient, nutritious crops that enhance both household diets and income.

We offer insurance solutions that provide a financial safety net when harvests are impacted by weather or other unforeseen challenges.
