Barr Foundation

One Acre Fund Awarded Barr Foundation Grant (2012)

The Barr Foundation is dedicated to enhancing educational and economic opportunities for those living in poverty, with a special focus on environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation. One Acre Fund was initially awarded ~$1 million over 2012-2014 to support crop insurance and sustainable initiatives like solar lights, tree-planting programs, and composting trials in Kenya and Rwanda.

In 2014, that gift was extended to an additional $3.7 million in all program countries through 2016 to support crop insurance, tree-planting, solar lights, and staple crop diversification packages (e.g. sorghum and millet).
