Meet Eldah Akola
Before One Acre Fund, Kenyan farmer Eldah Akola would only harvest two bags of maize on her half-acre plot of land. But, as the main source of income for her household — which includes both her children and grandchildren — giving up wasn’t an option.
“Since I joined One Acre Fund and started going for training, I harvest 12 to 14 bags of maize every season! I have food — I no longer need to buy food for my family. It has enabled me to pay school fees for all 8 of my children, and the same farming is now paying school fees for my grandchildren.”

Meet Anatholie Ayinkamiye
For Rwandan farmer Anatholie Ayinkamiye, life already had its difficulties before she became a single mother in 2021. Using traditional planting methods, she would harvest four bags of maize off of a portion of her land. Then, facing a future in which she’d have to raise her three children alone, Anatholie began working with One Acre Fund.
Despite the challenges, her family’s fortunes have improved significantly. Benefitting from training and advice from her field officer, in that first year working with One Acre Fund, she had the confidence to plant a full hectare of maize and managed to harvest 35 bags!
The increased yields have resulted in a surplus which she has been able to sell in order to make some important investments, including paying off the loan on her house.
“I was so happy with my first harvest with One Acre Fund. But what overwhelmed me even more was finally completing the loan we had taken out to buy our house. I can't fully express the feeling of owning your own home!”
