Backing the Women Farmers Feeding the World

Behind every successful woman farmer is a community of women professionals employed in agriculture. Use your talents to help make women farmers more prosperous.

Africa’s agricultural sector is poised to become a $1 trillion industry by 2030, and women are central to this vision. Women make up 40% of the smallholder farmers in Africa, which means that your next meal might have been prepared using ingredients from a woman’s farm! And you know what they say - behind every successful woman farmer is a community of women professionals employed in agriculture, working in various roles from extension services to research, from food processing to policy. Women employed in this sector comprise half of the total workforce on the continent, and they are crucial to ensuring farms remain productive, families healthy, and communities resilient.

Working at One Acre Fund

Here, our currency is impact, and the smiles we create along the way! Here's a sneak peek into #LifeAtOneAcreFund.

For us, creating more impact means getting more women involved at every level - be it in the fields, in the labs, or in boardrooms. The challenge? Only 30% of job applications we receive are from women, and our resolve is to remedy that. The next step towards a food-secure future is to build a workplace that is reflective of the rich diversity that the agricultural sector boasts. In this Year of the Woman Farmer, consider applying to join our team today and use your talents to help make women farmers more prosperous.

Ange Ishimwe
"One Acre Fund has been the perfect place for my career growth. From day one, I was struck by how much the organization invests in its people. I’ll be honest: when I came in, I wasn’t sure I had what it takes to be a leader. People say leaders are born, but I’ve learned it’s also about training your mindset. Structured learning, mentorship, and coaching have shaped me into a more confident leader."

My manager has shown genuine understanding, offering flexible work schedules and encouraging rest as I connect with and grow my family. I have felt truly cared for, even when I wasn't at my best."

In 2020, we committed to driving better diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) outcomes across the organization, and in the past four years, we have reconstituted our senior leadership group to be more representative in terms of gender and nationality, redesigned our compensation and benefits strategy (extending four core benefits for all staff), revamped our performance management processes and tools, established an Ombuds office, and improved DEI fluency for office-based and farmer-facing teams. Here’s our latest People and DEI Report for more.

In 2022, we revamped our compensation and benefits structure to ensure all staff, across all levels, have access to four core benefits - health, child, housing, and retirement. Beyond this, we’ve also taken measures to support mothers returning from maternity leave, including remote working and reduced working hours in certain countries, as well as setting up lactation rooms with the required amenities included.
